Busy start for local curlers

Orangeville curlers have had a busy start to the season, competing in provincial playdowns at various levels.

Two senior ladies teams won their zone level games, advancing to the regionals being held at the North Halton Country Club December 3-4.

Dale Curtis, Laura Davis-Cook, Rosemary Gowan and Sue Laurin won through, and will compete at Brantford in late January.

The second team composed of Rhonda Buck, Marilyn Gray, Pat Russell and Liz Harding lost their third game to a team from Port Elgin.

Two senior men’s teams competed at the zone level as well. Ken Coulter, Craig Phillips, Kevin Glassford and Joe Gerrard had a good weekend with three wins and two losses but came up short in the “B” final.

The second team of Randy Gray, Randy Mould, Gord Crockford and Bruce Russell had a tougher time, losing both their Saturday games.

Three mens teams will compete in the KIA Cup playdowns at the Brampton Curling Club between December 16-18.

Team line ups are:

Jon Grant, Brent Gray, Brain Gray and Craig Phillips: Aaron Glazier, Brad Russell, Ryan Klassen and Jeremy Smith: Stu Garner, Jeff Channell, Dan Balachorek and Ted Anderson.

Only one Orangeville Ladies teamKirsty Russell, Amanda McCready, Tamara Neilson and Helen Jenkins will compete for the Tournament of Hearts zone playdowns also to be played on that same weekend.
