Northmen B awards night

Photo/MIKE MALONEY The MacMaster Pontiac Buick GMC Junior B Northmen wrapped up one of their most successful seasons to date with their season ending banquet and awards night.

This year, the event was held at the Orangeville Legion and in addition to the regular team awards, a number of presentations were also made to the team on behalf of the league.

Starting off the evening, DJ Cleavely took Regular Season's leading scorer while James Reid claimed the scoring title for the playoffs.

Graduating veteran Travis Rydell marked the end of his Northmen tenure by being awarded the Les Clark Award for Unsung Hero.

John Harnett was presented the Fitzpatrick Family Award for Most Improved Player while Joel Rennie accepted the Karen Pirie Memorial Award for Most Sportsmenlike Player.

Matt Noble's efforts throughout the season did not go unnoticed, garnering him Chandler Family, Coaches Appreciation Award while the work of Kevin Cook in post season play earned the Jim Brown Trucking Award for Playoff MVP.

Nick Rose marked his first season with the club by taking home a number of honours. In addition to MVP honours for his play during the regular season, Rose was also named the Northmen Rookie of the Year in addition to the same title being bestowed on him by the league as the Western Conference Rookie of the Year.

Spencer Joyce was the big winner on the night. His defensive work for the team brought him the Rose Family Award for Defensive Player of the Year and his all around effort, determination and leadership both on and off the floor was instrumental in his being named for the Pat Coyle Northmen of the Year Award.

This year’s Mary Clark Memorial Award was presented to Lindsay Sanderson which was accepted on his behalf by his son's Nat and Josh.

Sanderson has been a key figure in the Northmen organization from its inception over 20 years ago through to today, having served in almost ever capacity from on the floor coaching and refereeing up through the executive ranks.

The efforts of this years coaching staff did not go unnoticed either.

The trio of assistant coaches Blaine Burman, Josh Sanderson and head coach Rusty Kruger were recognized by the league and were named the OLA Western Conference Best Coaching Staff of 2005.
