Local curlers in regional play

2006-01-05 / Sports

This weekend will present a great opportunity to see some great live curling at the Orangeville Curling Club.

The foursome of Jon Grant, Brent Gray, Brian Gray and Craig Phillips will be representing the local club after having won their zone level competition recently in Brampton.

Regional playdowns are scheduled for a 9 a.m. start at the Orangeville rink on Saturday with winners from this event advancing to the KIA Cup Ontario Championships to be held in Guelph. If successful, they will then advance to the Tim Hortons Canadian National Brier in Regina.

The lady curlers are also in the hunt for a championship.

Kirsty Russell, Amanda Vanderspank, Tamara Neilson and Helen Jenkins play recently earned them a berth at the Scott Tournament of Hearts Regionals this weekend in St Thomas.

Also playing will be another Orangeville curler, Michelle Gray who along with her team mates from the St Catharines Golf and Country Club advanced to the regionals after winning through in Zone 13 play.

Besides the active competitive curlers, the Orangeville Curling Club also offers a tremendous selection of daytime and evening curling leagues for fun, friendship, good exercise and good curling.

Anyone wishing for more information can call the club at 941-0751.
