Royal Canadian Legion News

BY JILL BROYDEN Branch 233, Orangeville

Nothing superstitious about our Scotch Pies for this Friday the 13th and no false notions about the price of $4.00 being exactly right to attract members and their guests to the Branch for a Members Night meal.

Our Dart players will be back at their regular haunt this Saturday after their disappointing pitch at the Zone Trophy last weekend at Everett. Another shot at keeping the Doubles and Singles Trophy in Orangeville will be coming up February 4th when we host the Zone Tournament. Another disappointment was the poor turnout for our monthly Euchre last Sunday. This fundraiser needs support if it is to continue so please come out in February and enjoy a fun afternoon with your friends and Comrades.

Jill Phillips ‘Howling Wolves’ is the Karaoke provider this Saturday. The busiest event of the weekend, and always a winner is our Everyone Welcome Breakfast for $4.00 – Sunday, January 15th, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Branch 233 has a full agenda for its first General Meeting of the New Year, January 29th Our Membership Chairman will be presenting 10 new members for initiation into The Royal Canadian Legion. Also, on the agenda members from the Town of Orangeville’s Communities in Bloom will be on hand to tell us about their program.

WE’RE BACK! For awhile we had no one to write up our column, so I’ve decided to give it a try. The branch is a quieter place this time of year, most welcome after the hecticity (how’s that for a new word?) of the Christmas/New Year’s rush.

But, there is still lots of activity here, such as: Euchre Mondays at 2:30; Bid Euchre Thursdays at

BY MARIBEL TOWNSEND Branch 220, Shelburne 7:30; Three Foot Kare clinics each month; Meat Spins Saturdays at 4:00; Our General Meeting the third Tuesday of each month (Jan. 24th @ 7:30) and so on. Our Breakfast/ Flea Market (1st Sunday each month 9 to 12:30) and our Jamboree 2nd Sunday each month 1 to 6, were combined on Jan. 8. Both continue to be popular and well attended. We sold around 90 breakfasts, and about 50 for supper at the end of a super Jamboree where there were a few new faces on stage as well as in the crowd.

The big event in January is on the 21st the 164 Squadron Air Cadets Annual Robbie Burns Dinner/Dance with live band, prizes, roast beef dinner and a wee bit of Haggis! For tickets or further information, call 9256621.

That’s all the news for now. If anyone has items of interest or news you feel pertinent to our organization please submit it to us at Box 12, Shelburne, L0N 1S0. Everyone’s input is welcome, not just Legion members.

We wish you one and all a healthy and exciting 2006 and especially all Veterans let’s carry on from the “Year of the Veteran” to celebrate and honor them every day.

‘Til next time. Yours in Comradeship.
