2 of 4 alleged vandals convicted

2006-03-23 / Local News

Two of the four persons charged with slashing the tires of as many as 40 cars in Orangeville last October have been convicted and sentenced in Ontario Court of Justice.

Ricky Moricz of Orangeville and Evan Brumwell of Belwood, both 19, were not ordered to make restitution of more than $4,000, but they will have to publicly apologize for their acts by purchasing a half-page newspaper ad for that purpose.

Assistant Crown Nick Chiera had asked for sentences to include restitution, but Justice June Maresca ruled on the basis that the accused wouldn't have the resources.

The slashing last October occurred overnight in the southeastern quadrant of town, where many vehicles were parked outdoors.
