SMHA Peewee reps dump Owen Sound

The Auto Centre Shelburne Wolves Peewee Rep team emerged successfully from their first round of league playoffs on the consolation side after eliminating Owen Sound in four games in a three out of five series.

The Wolves hosted Owen Sound for the first game on Feb. 23 and handed them a 3-1 defeat.

Defenseman Jake Newton started the scoring for Shelburne with a pass back to the point from Jesse Fennell.

Newton added another goal unassisted in the opening frame and Fennell finished the scoring for Shelburne in the third assisted by Chad Leveille and Connor Early.

The Wolves found themselves in Owen Sound's barn on Feb 25 and had to settle for a 2-2 tie after being repeatedly stopped by Owen Sound's goalie. A

gain, Newton started the scoring unassisted for Shelburne and Todd Greer put in what turned out to be the tying goal from Joe Pendleton and Brock Hare.

Determined not to permit another tie, Shelburne welcomed Owen Sound back to the Wolves home ice on Mar. 2 and came up with their second 3-1 win.

Greer popped the first goal with a textbook pass from Pendleton who took the puck from Newton Leveille also scored in the opening period from Mac Bayly.

Defenseman Thomas Brooks, who has had many assists during the season but has been continually shut out of the goal column notched his first of the year, from Pendleton and Leveille to seal the Wolves victory.

Needing only a tie to finish off the series, the Wolves howled in to Owen Sound on Mar. 3 and commenced to do some serious scoring, handing Owen Sound a 110 defeat.

Tyler Craig started the scoring parade from Zach Ursu and Fennell.

Connor Early put in the next goal from Leveille and Bayly. Bobby Landers opened the scoring in the second period from Hare.

Early put in his second goal from Bayly and Leveille again.

Landers hit the twine for his second goal from Pendleton and Greer.

The Wolves came out hard in the third and added six more goals.

Ursu opened the third period scoring from Newton. AP player Owen Bennington put in the next one from Leveille. Greer then put one in from Pendleton and Landers. Fennell followed suit assisted by Doug Black. Pendleton started off the Wolves double digit goal total from Bayly. Bayly finished it off with goal number eleven assisted by Early.

Early registration for the 2006-2007 season will take place on Sunday April 2, 2006 during the end of season pot luck banquet and awards presentations.

Times and details to follow. Early registration price has been reduced to $400 ( a $25 savings from last year) so please plan on attending.

This information will be collected and the results will be presented at the Annual General Meeting, which is being held on Thursday, May 25, 2006 in the Town and Country Room at 7:00 pm.

The league is always, looking for volunteers to sit on the executive as well as for coaching staff and various committees/duties.
