The Vantastic Slam
The long awaited opening of the Hardwick House finally took place recently and the feedback has been phenomenal.
The former Main Street Station restaurant and bar has sat dormant for over a year on Mill Street.
What is old is new again with the team of Chad and his mom, Peggy taking over and renaming the bar the Hardwick House in tribute to the owner's late husband and partner Brian Hardwick.
Forget what you knew of the old place because they have completely renovated the inside and restored the original full length bar.
It has a unique atmosphere geared towards an older more mature crowd hosting retro Fridays and Rockin Country Saturdays.
For those who like bands, they have that too, with Jam nights Wednesday and a band Thursday. Psychedelic Sunday Karaoke and unplugged light Jazz Mondays.
So, I have been following the ongoing story regarding the teachers and students involved in the work stoppage for the Province's Colleges. I have spoken to friends on both sides of the fence and I have to say in my eyes the only ones who are suffering are the students.
I understand the teachers are frustrated with their jobs, but who isn't?
Day in and day out people go to work frustrated and earn a heck of a lot less than the teachers do.
During an interview on the news, one teacher rep stated that the students will not loose their semester even if it means that the teachers will have to work on the weekends once the strike is over.
I laughed out loud when I heard that. Why you may ask?
Well, if you are like the majority of the world you have to work on the weekends at your job.
If you don't, consider yourself lucky.
Secondly, now the students who have already been inconvenienced by the teachers strike are being asked to attend classes on weekends.
Considering that most students hold down part time jobs on the weekends, that is another tough pill for them to swallow.
The way the two sides are carrying on you would think Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow were involved.
