Photo/MIKE MALONEY ORANGEVILLE FLYERS had their chances but could not find a way past a stubborn Aurora goalie and were forced to accept the silver medal in an exciting action packed OMHA Minor Atom AA final at the Tony Rose on Sunday afternoon. This marked the second year in a row that the team has managed to earn a berth in the Minor Atom final. The Orangeville Flyers showed guts, skill and determination in spades, but that wasn't enough to get past the Aurora Tigers in game five of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Minor Atom AA final held at the Tony Rose on Sunday afternoon.

Right from game one two weeks ago, the two very closely matched teams waged a seesaw battle that saw the final outcome decided in the final minutes of regulation play or as was the case in games three and four, overtime decisions going to the respective home team.

The table was set for the decisive game starting last Wednesday evening in Orangeville.

The stands at Tony Rose arena were near to capacity for game three.

After the first 10 minutes of play the game still remained scoreless.

Aurora was on the offensive attack through the first but the defensive team made up of Nick Gourlie, Jake Rosati, Connor Anyon, Marc Sellan and Liam Campbell did extremely well against this threat.

Midway through the second Orangeville continued to apply constant pressure in the Aurora end and were rewarded when Malcom Young scored to put Orangeville up by one with the assists going to his line mates Braiden Davis and Tyler Haley.

Orangeville managed to kill three penalties against the strong Tiger power play unit.

It was a very aggressive third period with no scoring until the 1:59 mark. Two Aurora forwards managed to beat the solid Flyers defense and raced in on the Orangeville goalie.

Gamoyda poke checked the first defender and the rebound was picked up by the second Tiger who scored.

The game headed into overtime and remained scoreless until with 8 minutes left on the clock, Coach Anyon put out the Davis line.

These boys were hungry for a goal. Davis stole the puck from a defender

moved it to Haley who gracefully flipped it to Young who put it away for the game winner.

The crowd went crazy and Young was mobbed by his teammates at center ice. Back in Aurora for game four, the Flyers Nick Pirraglia popped in the first goal at the 7:43 mark of the first period with the help of Mathew VanGalen and Mackenzie Mitchell.

Two minutes later the Tigers scored and then followed up with another goal in the second period.

Malcolm Young tied the game up at two with his line mates Braiden Davis and Tyler Haley getting the assists.

The buzzer rang to end regulation time leaving the teams headed for overtime for the second night in a row.

Both teams playing extremely well, the tie breaker was scored by Aurora at 7:38 of the overtime period to give the Tigers a 3-2 win and set up the winner take all game five. With standing room only, the Tony Rose was packed for game five.

It was very entertaining game as the Flyers and the Tigers put on a great show.

Aurora opened the scoring in the second and picked up another in the third period of play.

The Flyers were unable to find away past a stubborn Tiger cager and despite all their best efforts, were handed a 2-0 loss and were forced to settle for the OMHA silver medal.
