Not much February crime in ELGV
The people of East Luther Grand Valley must be behaving themselves, judging by the monthly OPP report for February, but the village might be going to the dogs.
According to crime statistics, there was only one Criminal Code offence - that one for impaired driving - and one drug-related charge.
There was still one property crime unsolved from January. The impaired charge has not been resolved.
On the roads, there were six motor vehicle accidents - and none of those had either fatalities or personal injury. Two of the collision investigations remain outstanding.
There were 32 minor violations, ranging from one missing person to family disputes and trespassing. Twenty-eight of the violations were resolved without charges being laid.
In other violations, one case of fraud and another of theft are outstanding. There was a report of uttering threats, but it's listed as "unfounded."
On the revenue side, the OPP collected $150 for six background checks at $25 each.
According to the report, the police have been detailed to keep a close watch on pedestrian traffic - in particular children - around the banks of the Grand River. In February, Constable Kristine Stanway was off duty, recovering from off-duty injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision on Highway 89 in January. She has returned to light duty.
In its new community office in Grand Valley, the OPP have replaced their old video taping VHC machine with a DVD recorder, to conserve space and make the videos portable.
In February, the officers worked a total of 214.25 hours under the ELGV contract.
The police are not involved with canine control. But township council has recorded an anonymous complaint of "numerous dogs running at large in town; dog poop all over the sidewalks and grass, especially bad at Main and Amaranth (streets)."
The township has a canine control officer, but had not contracted apparently for routine patrols. Officer Martha Oosterhof, according to the council's report, would resume patrols "if council wished."
