Area golf enthusiasts looking to improve their game or work on their swing now have a new outdoor practice facility to help players get ready for the season.

The Dufferin Glen Golf Academy and Practice Facility is a driving range and teaching academy, just a few minutes outside Orangeville, north of Highway 9, on the Second Line east of Hurontario Street.

Owners Khwaja Ajib and Winston Jageshar have been busy preparing the grounds and have been open for diehards since the beginning of April.

"We are open and ready to go," said Mr. Ajib.

Mr. Ajib and Mr. Jageshar had been looking forward to the end of the snow, so they could open the grounds, in the early spring to give golfers enough time to get their swing back into game shape.

"The warm weather is great to see," Mr. Ajib said. "It gets people thinking about golf again."

The facility has graphite-friendly mats, with five target greens as well as laser and yardage markers.

is available, by appointment for individual or group lessons.

Clubs are provided during the lessons for anyone trying the sport before purchasing equipment.

"Taking lessons is good way to try it out first," said Mr. Ajib. "And with the clubs provided for the lesson, it is an affordable way to get started."

Another service provided at the facility is club making, regripping, custom fitting and repairs.

"Golf clubs should be fitted to the player," Mr. Ajib said, adding: "We can make clubs to suit anyone."

Additions to the services, expected to be included this summer, are a sand area, for practising the hazard shots and grass tees for putting practice.

"A golf game can be greatly improved with practice," said Mr. Ajib. "We are committed to providing a great place to practice and learn."

The Dufferin Glen Golf Academy and Practice Facility is open seven days a week, April to November (weather permitting), 8 a.m to an hour before sunset.
