Criticism for 'No Common Ground' letter
Ron Bosman (No Common ground/ April 6) sloughs off William Bothwell's thought that "increased dialogue" between Muslims and Christians might help heal the gap that separates them. Mr. Bosman, to his own and only his own satisfaction, "demonstrates" the impossibility of this.
Muslims, he says, don't accept Jesus as the son of God, don't accept the Crucifixion and the Resurrection and a few other things.
Since Bosman takes the Bible literally, he naturally rejects all Muslim positions on Christianity. His solution to the gap between them? It lies
in" ...the preaching of the Gospel (that) can convert Muslims...and free them from the shackles of Islam."
Another Holy Crusade: just what the world needs. I hope this won't be a Children's one, at least. There certainly is a gap here. Mr. Bothwell wants dialogue. Mr. Bosman wants to convert and instill Muslims with the Absolute Truth. I'm pretty sure which way a crucified Jesus would recommend.

--o--
In his letter "No Common Ground" Mr. Bosman states
that when the Muslim convert to Christianity was sentenced to death in Afghanistan this "shows the true face of Islam."
I would argue that this is the true face of some angry, narrow minded and bigoted individual human beings, not that of Islam.
If Mr. Bosman's statement were true, then it would be logical to assume that the torture and murder of "heretics" by the Inquisition of the Christian Church showed the true face of Christianity.
I hope for all of our sakes that neither of these statements are true.
