Apple Autoglass sweep playoffs
The Apple Autoglass Sounder Light Novice Tigers girls hockey team proved to be the dominant squad in this years playoffs and championship game. After being undefeated in 4 playoff rounds,
the Apple girls faced a strong Forecast Group in the final game. This was the culmination of a season long rivalry that had been brewing to determine gold and silver.
The hockey game started out quickly with a lot of strategic line changes and matching of players. Forecast group got a couple of early chances but were denied by the outstanding goaltending of Melissa McCaul and the solid defense of Clair Anderson, Hayley Williamson, Courtney Lewis and Jessica Poletek.
The Apple forwards worked as a determined unit and began to put significant pressure on the opposing team. At 8:07 of the 1st period Breanna Payne scored from Courtney Lewis and Lydia Ann Loveille to put Apple up 1 to 0. A close game continued
with both teams trying to capitalize on the other. With some open ice defenseman Clair Anderson made a hard rush up the ice to score with a blistering shot unassisted at 2:45 of the 2nd.
During the remainder of the game forwards, Baily Barr, Alexa Collette, Jessie Lewis, Jadye Lavoie, Erica Greshuk and Tori Mugridge continued to press The Forecast Group but were not able to open their lead any further. In the last minutes of the game The Forecast Group pulled their goalie in exchange for an extra attacker to close the gap
but the back flips of goaltender Melissa McCaul and cohesive teamwork of Apple Autoglass Sounder Light would deny the attack. The Novice Girls Championship game ended in a final score of 2-0. The Forecast Group are to be commended for an excellent game, super sportsmanship and for being a class team from start to finish.
Special thanks go out to the coaching staff of Apple Autoglass Sounder Light, the "hockey boyz" in the time box, and a wonderful group of parents that supported this effort. Great job girls!
