Shelburne Minor Hockey wraps up season with pair of titles

Two of Shelburne's teams brought home trophies this season.

Novice Local League team, sponsored by Metz Homes and Sanderson Source for Sports won the league championship, bringing home a trophy that was bigger than the players.

The final series saw the team facing Wasaga Beach on March 27th in Shelburne.

Tyler Rolfe popped in both goals, assisted by Jeffrey Earle on one, to take the first game 2-1.

March 29, the team team travelled to the Beach for a tying game, with Rolfe scoring both goals, assisted by Josh Leveille on one.

Shelburne took game three 4-0 in the Beach with goals from Darren Taylor, assisted by Isaac Fazackerly, Rolfe, assisted by Trey Humphrey, Nathan Feallock-Cole popped in the 3rd, assisted by Manny Cunningham and Rolfe dropped in the final goal, unassisted.

Game 4 was played back at home and the fans cheered them onto their 30 victory.

Rolfe scored the first 2 goals, assisted by Fazackerly, Humphrey and Earle and the final goal was scored by Humphrey, assisted by Earle.

Jake Currie was amazing between the pipes for all 4 games.

The kids and parents would like to thank coaches Tom Reid and Mike Fazackerly for an amazing season.

The Shelburne Hockley TV Atom Rep team sure knows how to keep their fans entertained.

The team ended up in the consolation round of the Atom A Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League after being bumped by Oro in their first series .

Shelburne swept Essa in three straight to earn a berth in the Consolation final against Elmvale.

With only 9 skaters available for game one, the boys couldn't get it past the Elmvale defense.

Goalie Dylan Gray was pummeled with shots, and made many amazing saves to keep it close but at the final buzzer it was. Elmvale 5, Shelburne 2.

Points for Shelburne went to Justin Graham (Jake Nicholson, Jackson Seeley), and Matthew Taylor (Jeffrey Brett, Justin Wing).

Still playing short back in Elmvale, the Wolves rallied to take a 6-2 back home for game 3.

Points for Shelburne were Jamie Bennett ( Nicholson, Graham), Graham (Nicholson, Mackenzie Smillie), Wing (Brett, Mitchell Lee), Graham (Nicholson, Taylor), Graham (Nicholson, Seeley), and Graham (Bennett).

Game three was a seesaw battle keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.

With 29 seconds left in the third period the score tied at 6-6, Jake Nicholson was awarded a penalty shot that he made no mistake on giving Shelburne the 7-6 victory.

Points for Shelburne were: Taylor (Brett), Wing (unassisted), Graham (Alek Gombik, Mitchell Lee), Nicholson (unassisted), Nicholson (Graham, Jamie Bennett), Brett (Wing, Mackenzie Smillie), Nicholson (penalty shot).

Game four of the series saw the Wolves travelling back to Elmvale where they just couldn't get anything going, dropping a 7-0 decision.

Back in Shelburne for game five, Shelburne came out strong and stayed that way for the whole game.

Scoring began with a short-handed goal by Graham (unassisted). Wing followed with an unassisted goal of his own to make the score 2 to 0. Mitchell Lee (Nicholson) fired a blistering wrist shot from the blue line to put the Wolves ahead by three. This fast paced game

continued with Smillie (Graham) popping in one of his own. Bennett (Brett, Nicholson) and Smillie (Brett, Nicholson) topped up the scoring for Shelburne. Pate was solid between the pipes, making many saves for the team.

With a final score of Shelburne 6, Elmvale 1, Shelburne earns the Atom A Consolation Championship title. Combined with 2 tournament wins earlier in the year, this was a perfect finale to a hard fought season.
