Tony Rose operating hours sorted out
A major uproar over a proposed reduction in operating hours at the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre has led to a community consultation aimed at coming up with a viable solution.
Councillor Manwell wanted to clarify that there was never any intention to close the Tony Rose pool. The changes agreed to during the consultation meeting were to:
restore the aquafit and lane swims at Tony Rose on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings so that the programs will be offered as previously on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays;
schedule school rental programs for Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:45 to 11. open the Alder Street
Recreation Centre pool later, at 9 a.m., on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Alder Street pool currently opens at 6:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8:30 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The early openings Tuesdays and Thursdays are for swim programs that are being moved to Tony Rose.
These changes still allow for the saving of about $81,000 for the balance of this year and about $200,000 in a 12month period.
Councillor Manwell stated Monday night that if people want more hours there must be more use of the facilities and he encouraged people to do so.
