Robbie McLennan remembered
Photo/LAVINIA KERR ROBBIE REMEMBERED. Family and friends gather to remember Robbie McLennan on the fourth anniversary of his murder, April 19, 2002, in Dragonfly Park, named for Robbie's love of the dragonfly. It's been four years since Orangeville teen Robbie McLennan was murdered in Dragonfly Park, but time has done little to heal the hurt his family and friends feel every day.
April 19, was a day that is difficult to forget for those who knew Robbie, and each year on the anniversary of the tragedy, a crowd gathers to remember his life.
Dragonfly Park was named in honour of Robbie after the 16-year-old was killed there.
The name is a tribute to his love of dragonflies.
The large somber crowd that gathered Wednesday of last week didn't speak about the teen's death but instead shared stories they remembered about his life.
Several speakers told of things they remembered about him, and his mother, Kathy Bradley, privately thanked those who came out to spend some time remembering her son.
Robbie's love of the outdoors is honoured through the Dragonfly Scholarship, presented each year to an Orangeville District Secondary School graduate who plans to pursue post-secondary studies in nature and the environment.
Robbie's memory and name also survives in a junior award presented to a student who has overcome academic challenges.
Funds for these scholarships are raised during the Robbie McLennan Memorial Fishing Derby, held each September at the Island Lake Conservation Area.
