5 arrested in gas station robbery

Police have arrested five young men after a handgun was brandished during a robbery at a Mono gas station last Sunday morning.

Dufferin OPP reports that at about 12:15 a.m. on May 13, five masked men entered the Shell station on Highway 10, just south of 25 Sideroad, in the Town of Mono. One of the males pulled out a handgun and ordered the attendant to hand over all the money. While this was occurring the other suspects began stealing cigarettes. The suspects then fled in a vehicle, heading south on Highway10.

Dufferin O.P.P. officers called to the scene broadcast a description of the suspects and suspect vehicle to surrounding police agencies. Shortly thereafter, York Regional Police advised that they had a report of a similar gas station robbery and a second attempted robbery in Richmond Hill involving five suspects. York Regional Police located the suspects in a vehicle and arrests were made.

A 19-year-old Bolton man, Arun Kumar Rana, and four young people who cannot be named under the Criminal Youth Justice Act are facing numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm, use a firearm during the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm and wearing a disguise.

The accused are to appear in criminal courts at Newmarket.
