The Town of Orangeville's Summer Camp registration is under way.

Some new camps have been added to the program this year. For more information on summer camps, go to www. orangeville.ca or contact Day Camp co-ordinator Jessica Keats at 940-9092 ext. 4106.

The Leadership Development Camp is a new program this year for ages 12-15 that is focused on developing leadership skills, such as taking risk, co-operation, team-building, community involvement and many other skills.

The camp is a two-week process, where on the first week campers learn the above skills and then on the second week go on-site and have the opportunity to apply the skills they

learned the week prior in a camp that fits their interests and skills.

Participants, who are in high school, will have the opportunity to use the second week of the program as community service hours.

In addition, all participants will come out with an Emergency First Aid certification from the Lifesaving Society. This is a great certificate to have displayed on a resume.

Overall, the program is a link from the regular summer camps that target those aged 5-11 and gives participants handson experience of child care, recreation and sports, as well as a place to develop their leadership skills through organizing games and crafts.

The second program, Volunteer Leader, is for students above the age of 16 who have interests in a variety of sports, crafts and wildlife. Students are required to complete a two-week placement and all hours volunteered can be used towards the student's Community Service Hours. Volunteers who are interested can obtain an application at Alder Street Recreation Centre or online at www. orangeville.ca.

Applications are due Friday, June 23. This program is great for students who are looking for a career in child development, social services, recreation and leisure and teaching.

In addition to receiving community service hours, volunteers can attend a First Aid course and receive their Emergency First Aid certificate free of charge.

For information on these programs contact Caitlyn Smith at 9409092 ext.4106, or email csmith@orangeville.ca.
