Did you graduate grade 12 in 1980 or grade 13 in 1981?
Former students will be greeted by the familiar facade of their alma mater (top), while the reunion committee composed of Jim Grant, Adrienne Bothwell, Doug Scaife, Colleen Egan and Rob Hesp (contributed photo right )along with Dean Howard, Alida Love and Alison Husband (absent) is hard at work making preparations for the event. Do you remember where you were when the rubic cube craze was sweeping the nation? It began in 1980 and for some, that year also represented the end of high school.
The graduating class of 1980-81 from Orangeville District Secondary School (ODSS) is holding a 25year reunion this summer and is looking for the graduates.
Many years have since passed and reunion organizers are trying to contact as many former class-mates as possible.
"We are contacting everyone we know who are still in the area," said reunion organizer Colleen Egan. "Hopefully they will know where others have gone and we can get a good turnout."
ODSS was the only high school in Orangeville at the time and many students were bused from the outlying areas, including Grand Valley.
The Grade 12 class that year lists 234 graduates, and the following year, Grade 13 had 126 graduates.
In 1980, Orangeville was still considered a small town with a population of about 13,000, but its popularity as a good commuter town was growing.
Re-connecting with the past is an enjoyable experience and finding out what happened to the people you spent four (or five) years with, as a teenager, can be both entertaining and fun.
The organizing committee - have planned a weekend get-together for July 8 and 9, including an evening dinner and social on Saturday and a family outing at Island Lake Conservation Park on Sunday.
All graduates planning to attend are asked to register so plans and arrangements can be finalized.
Visit the website at: odssreunions. com for information and to register or call 1866-262-5522.
The website has a list of both grade 12 and 13 graduates and who is planning on attending, as well as a message board.
