Outlaws set for kickoff
ORANGEVILLE COUNCILLOR Ken Manwell signs a proclamation by the Town of Orangeville declaring May 28th, Outlaw Football day in recognition of the kick off of the organization's fifth season with Outlaw representatives Nicole Nolan and Kevin Laughlin looking on. Photo/MIKE MALONEY The Town of Orangeville has proclaimed May 28th, 2006 Outlaws Football day to show support for our youth football programs.
All three leagues of the OUTLAWS FOOTBALL are kicking off the season on Sunday May 28th.
For the Peewee and Junior Varsity squads, there couldn't be a better way to start the 5th season for them than play their long time rivals the TNT Express.
There is certainly no love lost between these two clubs and with the inaugural season of the new OMFLkicking off, a win is the only way either of these two clubs want to walk off the playing field.
The Peewees and JV's have been gearing up for this since mid March when they started off doing inside conditioning at ACTS.
At the beginning of April out came the pads and 3 times a week they have been running, jumping, high stepping and of course their favorite, hitting in preparation for this season.
With the talent pool growing each year for these teams the possibility of two championships is sitting in the back of everyone's mind.
But what would the Home Opener be without our very own Outlaw house league Atom's kicking off the day.
The Rebels and the Renegades won the toss to see who would play first with the Bandits sitting this one out waiting for Monday night to start their season against the Rebels.
Along with two teams from Halton Hills, this will be an exciting season for the House League. All these teams hit the field in mid April to start preparing and jelling as a unit. With numbers of players enrolled way up, there will be little worry about players needing to play both sides of the ball this season which should make for faster and more competitive games.
Many activities are planned to kick off the season starting at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday May 28th at Westside Secondary School.
Mayor Drew Brown will be out to do the coin toss for each game and Dave Pounds will sing our National Anthem.
The Woodgate School of Dance will be demonstrating their style of dance during the day as well.
Kick off times are 10:00 A.M. for the Atoms, 1:00 P.M. for the Peewees and 4:00 P.M. for the JV's.
As usual there will be a BBQ cooking up a feast all day and all new OUTLAW merchandise will be on display and for sale.
So plan on making a day of football and come on out and watch some exciting Outlaws football.
