Grand Valley helps Dufferin mark 125th anniversary

By LAVINIA KERR Staff Reporter

Grand Valley was the place to be this weekend with a double header of activities to enjoy.

The annual duck race saw 2,000 yellow rubber ducks being dropped into the river at Main Street North and finishing at Main Street South, in the park, on Saturday afternoon.

Proceeds from the sale of sponsoring a duck, raised about $5,500 to be shared between the Grand Valley Skating Club and the Lions Club.

The winning duck and a grand prize of $1,000 went to Pamela Moroney and the second-place winnings of $500 went to Laurrie Lonc.

As usual, the annual tradition drew a huge crowd and most spectators stuck around for the Grand Valley Family Fun Day. Events were held at the

community centre and included a pancake breakfast, talent show, BBQ and dance featuring an Eagles cover-band. Capping off the night, a spectacular fireworks show.

Both events are featured in the 125 Dufferin County celebrations 2006 Event Passport, which features activities throughout the county, continuing all year long.

The passports can be picked up at any Dufferin municipal office.
