Founders' Fair features antiques road show The Downtown Orangeville BIA will be hosting the 37th annual Founders' Fair celebration this Friday and Saturday, July 7 and 8, in the downtown area. The 2006 Founders' Fair is taking its direction from the original Fair celebration in 1970. A festival atmosphere will prevail, and activities throughout the weekend will celebrate the heritage of Orangeville. Young and old will be entertained, with a myriad of activities beginning on Friday evening at 6 p.m. As part of the festivities the Founders' Fair will be hosting an Antique road show Saturday on Mill Street, organized by the Caledon Village Antique Market. Visitors to the Fair are encouraged to bring their antique coins, paper money, war medals, glass and crocks for an independent appraisal by appraisers John and Gary. Gary, a second generation professional numismatist, with over 30 year's experience, will be available Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Gary's specialty is coins (ancient to modern), historical medals, militaria and paper money. Over the years he has owned a coin store, attended coin shows and auctions all over North America, performed appraisals for the Royal Ontario Museum and is an eBay seller and trading assistant. Gary will be happy to identify, evaluate and give advice on how to best start a collection or how to get the best value for items you already own. John will be available on Mill Street between 2 and 4 p.m. to evaluate Canadian glass and crocks. Canadian glass and crocks is John's passion (though not his career). As a child he began antiquing with his mother, and he began his own personal collection of bottles when he was just 14. Over the years, John's passion expanded to crocks and old glass, with a particular emphasis on apothecary glass. Bring your antiques and collectibles to the Mill Street Antiques Road Show, as part of downtown Orangeville's Founders' Fair celebration, and let John and Gary assess your treasures. Who knows what hidden gems you may have hidden in your basement? Area residents are invited to celebrate summer and the founding of Orangeville by bringing family and friends to enjoy the festivities. And be sure to rummage around the house and bring your coins, paper money, war medals, glass and crocks, and let our appraisers take a look!
