The Shelburne Bantam Vets traveled five hours to Ottawa and came back with the championship of the Ray Broadworth tournament this past weekend.( July7th)

The team battled through 5 games, going undefeated including their 9-4 championship game win over the Kemptville Rockets.

The Vets opened the tourney with a convincing 10-3 win over the Akwesasne Storm on Friday night.

Saturday morning the Vets played through a tough Kemptville team falling behind 4-0 in the first but battling back to edge the Rockets 7-6.

Jesse Jamieson lead the troops in this one with a hat trick and two helpers with Pete Bannon, Iris Bannon, Sheldon Pinkney and Eric Schlidt adding singles in the win. Dustin Crowley and Jonathon Dittman split the goaltending.

Saturday night the Vets needed a win to move into the semifinals and came through with a solid 7-2 win over the Oakville Hawks.

Shelburne had a balanced attack going in this one as they had 7 separate scorers in their win over the Hawks. Wade Mackey, Pete Bannon, James Shaw, Sheldon Pinkney, Todd Greer, Tyler Greer and Jesse Jamieson scored for the Vets while Johnathon Dittman was solid in goal for the Army Hats.

The semi-finals had the Army guys facing the Cornwall Bulldogs.

Shelburne came ready to play as they built up a 2-1 first period lead then increased that to 7-2 after the second frame before cruising to a 10-5 win.

Jesse Jamieson lead the Vets with four goals and one helper while Pete Bannon added a pair with Sheldon Pinkney, Matt Symth,Wade Mackey and Marc Coe all adding helpers.

The final had a rematch with the Kemptville Rockets whom had upset Gloucester in the other semifinal.

The Troopers were not about to waste a weekend by coming home empty handed and didn't want another tight come from behind game against the Kemptville squad.

The Rockets opened the scoring once again however this time the Troopers responded back with eight unanswered goals on route to a 9-4 championship win.

Wade Mackey, Matt Nevills and Jesse Jamieson all had a pair in the win while Pete bannon, Marc Coe and Tyler Greer added the others. Johnathon Dittman was solid in goal for the Vets.

The team played without the services of three regulars in Luke Burke (injury), Grant Millner and Stu Clarkson (holidays) however were supported very well with three PeeWee call ups in Conner Early, Iris Bannon and Todd Greer. Coaches Barry Trood, John Crowley and Mark Early congrats the team on their effort all weekend.
