Shakespeare wrote "All the world's a stage," and this will be ably demonstrated by The Caledon Town Hall Players (CTHP) throughout their new season.

From pantomime to comedy to murder, this group of skilled actors features it all. Add to this mix an intimate 140-seat theatre in the converted, historic old Caledon Town Hall, a cosy "Village Bistro" café nearby, and a "brushup your acting skills" workshop, and you have good reasons to join the membership of the CTHP, or at the very least to buy subscriptions to their season. This talented group of

theatrically inspired folk has been offering the community plays, both familiar and original for the last forty three years, often to rave reviews.

The 2006/07 season begins with the play Tribute, written by Bernard Slade and directed by Denis Stephenson, the very successful president and now past president of the group for the past four years, now concentrating on acting and directing.

Tribute is the story of Scottie Templeton, a loveable rascal whose life is complete hilarity until tragedy strikes. His only quest then becomes reconciliation with his alienated son. A surprising ending provides humour mixed with pathos.

A note of historic showbiz trivia: years ago when the CBC and the Crest Theatre were the only employers of Canadian actors in Toronto, Bernard Slade, his wife Jill Foster and I were among a handful of actors who used to

perform sketches on such shows as "The Shirley Harmer Show" and "Wayne and Shuster". We shot the shows in the old Studio 7 on Yonge Street. Afterwards we'd gather in the local coffee shop to discuss our respective dreams. Imagine our pride when Bernie's dream came true and his first play, Same Time Next Year, hit Broadway and stayed on the Summer Stock circuit for years.

Be sure to see his Tribute. It runs from October 26 to 28 and November 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11.

The Caledon Town Hall Players will be holding a workshop in their space on Monday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m., run by yours truly, Nancy Kee. Laurence Olivier and many other fine actors continued to brush up their techniques throughout their careers, so with that in mind, we will indulge in some voice production, movement and interpretation.

As an actress I've worked on radio, television, stage and film and studied in Montreal, Toronto and London, England. I have also taught voice production and improvisational play-writing in schools in Ontario and Quebec and directed plays for community theatre, schools and the Arts and Letters club in Toronto.
