Good showing by area runners
The Orangeville area Catholic schools recently held their annual fall cross country running meet.
St. Benedict created a buzz on the trails, placing four of their eight teams entered into top two finishes and qualifying 22 athletes for the Board level meet later this month in Mississauga.
St. Andrew from Orangeville, a traditional powerhouse at this event, placed three teams on the podium while St. Cornelius in Caledon East put together four successful teams.
Shauna Meyers and Joanie McBride from St. Andrew finished one two in the girls grade 5 race. With vocal encouragement from the clan, Jordan Sullivan rumbled into second place in the grade 5 boys division.
A rigid training program paid dividends for Patrick Sullivan who finished first in the boys grade 6 race with Sean Fitzpatrick from St. Cornelius placing third.
The girls grade 7 went to Samantha Yurechuk of St. Andrew with Cassandra Briscoe from St. Cornelius in second.
Rachel Sweers earned a third place ranking for St. Benedict in the grade 8
girls race with the boys grade 8 going to Daniel Leone from St. Cornelius.
Bruce Thompson claimed second in that event, holding off Taylor Plaja of St. Andrew, who had to settle for third.
