Atom Rep Tigers take opener 1-0
The Orangeville Girls Rep Atom B Tigers played their opening game of the season on Saturday October 14th, posting a 1-0 victory over the visiting Willowdale Red Wings at the Alder Arena.
From the drop of the puck it was clear that the defensive core of Claire Anderson, Emily Cino, Claire Renouf and veteran Atom B defender Grace Whitfield, were in complete control of their zone.
Their aggressive play at the offensive end frustrated the visitors time and time again.
Clearly, the Tigers dominated play in the first period but were unable to find the back of the opponents' net.
The second period saw more chances for Willowdale but solid two-way play by the unrelenting Orangeville forwards kept the visitors chances to a minimum.
The second frame ended with a frustrated forechecking Orangeville team entrenched in a scoreless tie.
Finally, the Tigers' domination paid off at 4:17 of the third period when the Red Wings zone.
Mackenzie Couler- Pittman pounced on an errant pass and Jamie Collis' blocked shot was picked up Jamie Peterson who moved into the slot and ripped a shot to the stick side past the Willowdale goaltender.
From that point onward the Tigers continued to press but were unable widen the margin even though they completed the game by out-shooting Willowdale 6-0 in the period.
Overall shots on goal were 14-4 for Orangeville and recording her first shutout of the regular season was goaltender Isabelle Hunter.
