Meridian gives United Way a $150,000 lift

Meridian Credit Union has given a much-needed lift to dozens of needy families across Ontario.

Over the next three years, Meridian will be donating $150,000 in installments of $50,000 to United Way agencies in the communities it serves. Meridian will also be raising even more funds with the upcoming launch of its 2006 Employee United Way Campaign.

"Just like the United Way, we have a long history of standing by our communities and lending a helping hand to people when they need it most," said Barb Gardiner, Meridian's Orangeville branch manager.

"This initiative is part of our Good Neighbour Program which supports important causes and charities throughout Ontario and helps to promote strong, vibrant and inclusive neighbourhoods."

Running throughout the month of October, Meridian's Employee United Way Campaign will kick off during the first week with a special staff payroll program. During the rest of the campaign, all Meridian locations in Ontario will be holding a series of staff fundraisers including everything from bake sales and silent auctions to dress down days and staff donations to do their part for this worthy cause.

In 2005, Meridian's employee campaign raised more than $120,000 for the United Way, and this year, Meridian is looking forward to raising that total even higher.

"The United Way touches the lives of thousands of people and supports a wide range of social service programs right across Ontario," explained Ms. Gardiner. "All of us need help at one time or another - and our United Way campaign will be a great way for us to give something back to the communities where we live and work."
