Crushers making changes

2006-11-30 / Sports

Changes continue for the Orangeville Crushers.

After replacing head coach Steve Chelios three weeks ago with OPJHL veteran Charlie Bartlett, the Crushers have made a number of changes to the on ice line up.

Kevin Tuckey, a three year veteran with the club was traded to the Brampton Capitals while a week prior, defenceman Reilly Miller earned a one way trip to North Bay.

With the league roster deadline looming, Mark Schiraldi who joined the team from Ajax at the end of October was released.

A weekend trade with Collingwood brings goalie Matt Kinsella into the Crusher fold, squeezing out backup Matt Slack who has been placed on waivers.

Filling the void created by the loss of Tuckey, Schiraldi and Miller are a number of players from around the league.

Defenceman Grant Burke leaves Vaughan to take up position on the Crusher blueline while Adam Dipede will join Orangeville after spending the first part of the season with Toronto.

A pair of forwards, Kyle Cresswell and Nick Hearn who have been sitting on the Bramalea Blues sidelines till now will also be joining the

club and are eager to kick start their season.

Tinkering with the lineup seems to already be paying dividends.

With Anthony Ferrante backstopping the team by turning away 49 shots, second period goals from Cresswell and Nick Hearn added to a first period power play goal off the stick of Nicholas Vassos, to lift Orangeville to a 3-1 win on the road over Collingwood Friday night.

Sunday, it was another crack at the Seguin Bruins. The week before, Seguin had eked out a 2-1 in Orangeville and the Crushers were looking to return the favour.

Down 2-0 going into the third, Orangeville rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the top half of the final frame.

A power play goal from captain Will Munson lead Brian Curci who followed up with a shorthanded marker two minutes later.

Vassos would give the lead to Orangeville with 14 minutes left to play on assists from Munson and Cresswell.

Seguin was not to be outdone at home, adding a pair of their own before the two defensive units settled in for the duration, holding on for a 4-3 win.

Junior A action returns this when Orangeville hosts back to back home games.

Friday night finds the Ajax Waxers in town while Saturday, it's the Otters making the trip down from Huntsville for another round with the Crushers. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 starts at the Alder Street Recreation Centre.
