By MANDI HARGRAVE Staff Reporter

Promising residents that they'll make a difference, Mono's new council, with three re-elected members and two new members, was sworn into office Friday morning by a former mayor, Justice of the Peace John Creelman.

Lorie Haddock is the new mayor, while Dave Baldwin was acclaimed as deputy mayor and Ken McGhee and Laura Ryan were re-elected as councillors. Jean Gabriel Castel was elected to his first term as a councillor.

All members swore to faithfully and impartially exercise the Town office, swore they have not and will not receive any payment or reward or promise of a reward to exercise the office in a biased, corrupt or other improper manner. As well, they swore to disclose any pecuniary interest, direct or indirect and to be faithful

to bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Mayor Haddock told the crowd of residents who attended the ceremony that it was an honour and privilege to be the mayor of Mono.

"As I've said many times over the past few weeks, Mono is in your blood." She continued, "No matter where life takes you, Mono is always home waiting, waiting."

She said she looks forward "to the challenges that we'll face in the next few years. I know as a dedicated team this council can and will make a difference."

Nine years ago Deputy Mayor Baldwin promised his wife that he would be on council for just one term. He's now heading into his fourth and looking forward to every minute of it.

"Nine years later and a fouryear term ahead of me and I'm still really enjoying Mono," he said.

He's looking forward to working with the new council and he too believes they will make a difference.

Councillor Ryan said she is really pleased to be re-elected as she as many things within the town that are of interest to her.

Thanking those who voted for him, Councillor Castel said he's looking forward to the next four years. He told those present his decisions will be made with the best interests of all the citizens in Mono in mind.

Councillor McGhee said he was honoured that the citizens have elected him for another term. Having chosen to retire in Mono and be part of the community, he found it gratifying to be a member of council. There are a lot of challenges ahead, he said, but as a dedicated council they can make a difference.

The first regular council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
