Local Georgian campus hosts employer forum
Georgian College’s Centre for Career and Employment Services in Orangeville hosted its Second Annual Employer Forum recently in partnership with the Peel-Halton-Dufferin Training Board; The Centre for Business and Economic Development, and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
Guests on hand learned about employer services available to them and new employee hiring incentives from the informative guest speakers.
Among the guests was Derek Azer, now apprenticing as an auto body technician.
Derek is the first youth in Dufferin to be awarded an apprenticeship scholarship for completing the academic
upgrading required for registration in a trade and as an apprentice.
The crowd was surprised to learn that Derek was being awarded a $1,000 scholarship and the employer who has supported Derek’s registration and who is providing the training was also given a $1,000 signing bonus with another $1,000 to be paid in six months.
The evening was described as a huge success, with local employers learning how Georgian can assist them with their business needs.
Staff at the Orangeville Campus used the evening to network with local employers and to recognize the success of apprenticeships acquired through the Job Connect program.
