Banning hunting no solution

RE: Resident blasts Mono’s lack of hunting bylaw; Orangeville Citizen of Thursday December 14, 2006

My name is Paul Brock and I have lived in Mono for 21 years, let me state right away that what happened in Simcoe County forest to Marianne Schmid was truly a tragic accident and my sympathy goes out to her family, But this is NO reason to band hunting Mono.

I truly enjoy being able to walk out my back door or across the road to my neighbours and go hunting. What about the farmers how are they going to protect their livestock and crops if hunting was band?

Possible solutions in lieu of banning

eg: Along with ads in local papers put up posters at the entrances of county forests

As it is law that all hunters wear 400 sq. in or 2580 sq cm above the waist of hunter orange, maybe everyone using the county forest during hunting season should wear hunter orange.

Deputy Dave Baldwin’s comment about hunting being a danger to everyone is simply not true hunting is one of the safest sports going.

As for Ms. Proudfoot suggesting that it may not be difficult for people to come up with $2,000 bylaw on firearms fine and raise it to $5,000 or $10,000 I think a lot of people think that $2,000 is a lot of money and hard to come by.

Mono may be a town on paper but I think 90% of Mono is a rural area and not like Orangeville or Shelburne. Therefore banning hunting is NOT the solution.
