County council has renewed its five-year leases with medical facilities at Mel Lloyd Centre, at rental rates approximating $12 a square foot for 2007.

The Mel Lloyd Family Health Team leases 6,577 square feet in the Centre, and occupies some space in the south Bouwhuis area. Its basic lease, exclusive of taxes and utilities, begins at $65,770 for 2007, and rises to $74,024 by 2011.

The Shelburne Family Physiotherapy Clinic leases 960 square feet, on a threeyear basis, and pays annually from $12,096 in 2007 to $12,835 in 2009.

Dr. George Vanderburgh occupies 1,000 square feet in the upper level of the Bouwhuis wing, a “temporary” arrangement made two years ago pending reconstruction of the Mel Lloyd Centre.

But Oaks Administrator Brenda Urbanski said it has now “been determined that the upper level of the Bouwhuis Wing will house the medical clinic and related services.

On that basis, she recommended that Dr. Vanderburgh should be given a lease at $12,600 annually, subject to a three percent yearly increase.

The three leases would generate about $90,000 annually in their first year.
