Atom B Tigers clip Willowdale Red Wings
The Orangeville Atom B Tigers sponsored by Sanderson Source for Sports played two games on Dec. 16 and 17.
Saturday, the North York Storm rolled into the Alder Arena looking to avenge their loss to the Tigers earlier in November.
After an active first period, the game was knotted at two goals each with markers from Jamie Peterson and Megan Gancasz and assists from Gancasz and Taylor Sullivan.
The game remained deadlocked until the third period when a sure goal by the Storm was knocked out of mid-air by Tiger goalie Isabelle Hunter.
With renewed spirit, the Tigers went on the attack until a low drive from the half-boards by Lindsey Smith eluded the goaltender to put Orangeville in the lead.
Seconds later, a pass from Grace Whitfield set up Mackenzie Coulter-Pittman who wristed the puck into the open side of the net to ice the victory and quell the Storm.
On Sunday, the Tigers traveled to Toronto to take on the Willowdale Red Wings for the third time this season.
The Red Wings jumped out to an early lead with a power play goal.
Jamie Peterson tied the game near the end of the second period and capitalized again with her second unassisted game-winning goal directly from the opening face-off of the third period.
This match was quite a physical affair but unrelenting determination shown by each of the girls, especially Kayley Mutton, Lindsey Smith and Megan Gancasz ensured the win.
