2007-02-01 / Local News

Theatre Orangeville's main stage will be home to The Drawer Boy from Thursday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, March 4.

Local stars Jefferson Mappin, Booth Savage, along with Jeff Giles from Toronto will bring this poignant drama to life under the direction of Artistic Director David Nairn.

The Drawer Boy was written in 1999 by Michael Healey and has won four Dora Mavor Moore awards, the Governor General's Literary Award, and made Time Magazines Ten Best Plays of 2001.

"Wonderfully understated. Funny and deeply affecting," said a Toronto Sun reviewer, who gave the play five stars.

The Sun's John Coulborn said The Drawer Boy "is a play about the healing and restorative power of theatre - perhaps the most special effect ever created for the stage."

The story takes place in the 1970's. A naive Toronto actor named Miles approaches middle-aged farmers Angus and Morgan to let him document their lives as farmers in exchange for his help as a farmhand.

As Miles probes into their lives, Angus and Morgan's lives begin to unwind under the scrutiny of his questions. What ensues is a poignant, and sometimes humourous, revealing look at love, friendship, and sacrifice.
