MTO promises left-turn lane at 10/10 intersection
Complaints from residents concerned with motorists' safety in trying to make a left turn on Highway 10 at Dufferin County Road 10 prompted Mono Council to press the Ministry of Transportation to take some action.
At its meeting last week, council was told Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield had responded to the request to have a left-turn lane installed and agreed it would be beneficial for the operation and safety of the intersection. She has requested ministry staff begin a design process to make the roadway improvement.
"As the design progresses, the ministry will be in a better position to advise the Town and Dufferin County about the timing of construction," she wrote in a letter to council.
Deputy Mayor David Baldwin said it was great news but now council must stay on top of the issue to ensure construction does, in fact, happen quickly.
The highway currently has left-turn lanes at the 5 Sideroad/Hockley Road intersection and in Camilla at the junction with 15 Sideroad/Dufferin Road 8, but not at 20, 25 and 30 Sideroads, where the highway has only two lanes.
