Century Church Theatre announces its 2007 season
The two companies sponsored by The Erin Arts Foundation are all set to embark on another great season of entertainment at Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh. With even more fun, more laughter, and more great music, this season is billed as offering something for everyone.
The season opens March 22 - 31 with the Century Theatre Guild production of one of the funniest farces every written, "Move Over Mrs. Markham" by Ray Cooney and John Chapman, directed by Bev Nicholas.
The play is filled with suggestive double entendres, hilarious mistaken identities, and frantic attempts to cover up the naughty nonsense, what the London critics called a "wildly funny explosion."
In June, Neville Worsnop will direct the Theatre Guild in "The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Production of A Christmas Carol."
This outrageous assault on the classic tale, with all the idiocy and mishaps the Farndale ladies are famous for, has enthralled audiences around the world. The Guild rounds out its season with another Bev Nicholas pantomime, "Dick Whittington and His Cat" in December.
For the professional summer season, affiliated with the Association of Summer Theatres 'Round Ontario, the Century Church Theatre Company has chosen two riotous comedies.
In July, John Snowdon will direct "Situation Comedy" by Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke. In the play, two scriptwriters trying to come up with a TV sitcom idea find the events unfolding in their own homes more hilarious than fiction, and get themselves involved in some wild fantasies.
In August, Nick Holmes will direct "Key For Two", by John Chapman and Dave Freeman, a wickedly amusing play with deception, mistaken identity, splendidly farcical situations, and one of the funniest closing lines in theatre.
The fall will bring three musical productions, starting in September with "Back to Broadway" featuring some of the best show music presented by a group of talented singers and musicians. Hillsburgh Baptist Church will host a dinner before the Saturday show, and patrons will be invited to visit the Hills of Erin Studio Tour.
This is one of the many partnerships Century Church Theatre is developing to encourage tourism and promote local prosperity.
In October, world-renowned Bob Milne is back by popular request for the fifth year with his ragtimepiano wizardry and the much-in-demand Gourmet Afternoon Tea catered by The Pantry Shelf, and Hillsburgh Community Christian Church presents the second annual Gospel Night, featuring Waverley Junction Blue Grass Band, and the Muir Family's Country Sounds.

Theatre helps groups raise money
For anyone who is involved with a group or charity that needs to raise money, the Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh has developed a plan to help patrons raise money for themselves, and have fun at the same time. Here's how it works.
You purchase a block of theatre tickets at the greatlydiscounted group rate, resell them to your supporters and friends at the regular ticketprice and keep the profit. It's as simple as that. If you are a registered charity, you can even give tax receipts for the difference.
It does not have to be an onerous undertaking, in fact it could be the easiest fundraising ever, as a group outing to the theatre is always popular.
Groups can profit from this plan with as few as 10 tickets, but the larger the group, the greater the percentage discount and the greater the profit, up to several hundred dollars for just one performance. There is entertainment to suit everyone, with six shows to choose from, either comedy or music, between March and October.
Call the Box Office at 519-855-4586 for a brochure with information on shows and dates, and visit www. centurychurchtheatre.com. The helpful volunteers at Century Church Theatre are looking forward to helping groups plan a fund-raising fun night out at the theatre.
