      A few weeks ago a senior politician was speaking with this scribbler about the proposed pay increase for the elected people occupying the Provincial legislature. The justification for the pay increase was the need for more capable people running for office; presumably the current group doesn't meet the required standard.

Serious gasoline trouble?
      Quite apart from any corporate opportunities to profit from reduced supplies of gasoline, the fact that any difficulty with one production source of petroleum products is having such a significant impact on the availability of fuel in the greater Metropolitan Toronto ares should be of major concern to citizens, our military and political system.

Water is a limiting factor
      I am writing this letter in response to the Tom Claridge editorial in a recent paper entitled "Water: a growth-limiting factor?" Water could indeed be a growth-limiting factor; not just for us in Dufferin County but, if we continue our mismanagement of it, for the whole Province. This mismanagement has come about because of our long-standing view that water is a limitless resource in Ontario.

      Ken Hayward's comments on water sales are justified; read "Water Follies," a US author's recent book on the subject available in the Orangeville Library, which describes the errors that have been made in the USA and consequently predicts what could happen in Canada.
