Comments justified

Ken Hayward's comments on water sales are justified; read "Water Follies," a US author's recent book on the subject available in the Orangeville Library, which describes the errors that have been made in the USA and consequently predicts what could happen in Canada.

The Ogalala Aquifer, which lies under the US midwest between Canada and Texas, has been tapped for decades and has dropped about 100 feet in depth. When it is gone, the ranchers above it will be looking for water from elsewhere.

I have lived in three corners of the USA at various times and can attest to the events reported by "Water Follies" in the northeast, southeast and southwest. In Arizona I was appointed an honorary Zaniero (Water Controller) after extensively touring the Phoenix area's water systems.

An Arizona television station asked my opinion of a proposed North American Power and Water Agreement (NAPAWA), which recommended piping water from Canada's heartland to the arid plains of Arizona and California. I said I was against it, because of what the USA would do if Canada ever turned off the tap to satisfy its growing population. NAPAWA was never pursued seriously.

Sales of bottled water threaten our water resources. Don't buy it and don't ever export it.
