Tony Rose pool will stay open
      Swimming enthusiasts who filled the Orangeville council chamber Monday evening successfully pleaded their case to have the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre pool remain open. This was prompted after the Citizens' Commission on Finance suggested the pool should be closed to save the Town money, considering that it's facing a $27 million debt.

Broadway repair work set
      Repairs of the interlocking bricks around the Broadway median at Mill Street have been scheduled for next Tuesday, March 27. Ed Gill, managing director, operations and transportation, for Orangeville's Public Works Department, said Wednesday that as a result, the street's westbound lane will be closed from 6 a.m. until about 4 p.m., adding: "We expect to have the work completed on the same day.

Suspicious messages reported to OPP
      Caledon OPP report that several Caledon-area businesses have complained to them of receiving suspicious e-mails or faxes. The messages received told a story of a mother of five who had recently lost her husband in an explosion in Lebanon.

Symplastics sold to Rochling Engineered Plastics.
      Symplastics Ltd., a locally owned company for 34 years, has been purchased by a German firm, Rochling Engineered Plastics. The deal to sell was finalized last month and Symplastics founder Bob Deans said the move was a good one for the company. "Rochling has resources to build on, it's a very good move and something we've been building toward for a while now." Mr. Deans said.

      Workshops, information from community agencies and keynote speakers will be part of the Upper Grand District School Board's free Parent Learning Fair, to be held on Saturday, March 31, at Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus. As part of the board's student success initiatives, the fair is aimed at parents of students in grades 7 to 12.

Maodus charged for 7th time
      Ned Maodus, a former Mono resident and member of the disgraced senior Toronto drug squad, was arrested Monday night in Windsor on charges of assault, assault with a weapon, and uttering death threats. Meantime, he is to appear in an Orangeville court next month on similar charges arising from an investigation at his former Mono home.

Local author launches novel, A Cover Too Deep

      After scanning two proposals for animal control, East Luther Grand Valley council decided last week to re-tender for such a service and to outline the specifics of what it would require. The need to employ a new control agency arose on the death of Martha Oosterhof, who had been handling the function for several years.

Headwaters buys new ultrasound machine
      Headwaters Health Care Centre has purchased a new cardiovascular ultrasound machine to improve access and enhance service for patients. The hospital said in a press release that addition of a third ultrasound machine will allow Headwaters to perform 30 per cent more ultrasound tests annually, allowing more residents to receive care close to home.

      Remembering Vimy 90 Years Later On Easter morning, 1917, 170,000 young soldiers, belonging to the Canadian Corps, which included 100,000 Canadians, prepared for what would be one of the most important battles of the First World War.
