Mono to establish budget process
      In effort to have the town's 2008 budget prepared by the end of this year, Mono Deputy Mayor Dave Baldwin is looking to establish a budget procedure during the next council meeting on April 24. He is hoping to have a plan established that will see the budget process begin with a draft version in early October and passed by December 31.

Orangeville negates Mono safety plan
      Although a majority of members of county council might have supported it, Mono's impassioned plea for an extended safety zone on County Road 9 was lost by the weight of Orangeville votes.

      BOSTON PIZZA, celebrating its first anniversary in Orangeville, donated all proceeds of the celebration to the Orangeville Public Library on Wednesday. Students in Lisa Gillies, Magic Backyard program at Credit Meadows Elementary School saved their money to enjoy pizza on Wednesday and donate to the Library.

Bullying awareness website launched
      In response to a number of personal attacks, two young students have launched a website to draw attention to the issues of peer-to-peer bullying. The website, "Bullying Kids Speak Up," provides information on bullying and offers a space for young people to share their own personal experiences with bullying and victimization.

      THE CLOROX COMPANY has donated $11,316 to the Theatre Orangeville Youth Program. The money came from the company's Community Development Program fund that supports youth and education-oriented projects.

      Seedy Saturday is not one event, but a series of independent local events, which have sprung up across the country in the past twelve years. 'High miler' stopped on Airport Road
      Caledon OPP report that on Monday afternoon of last week, officer Rosa Caledon OPP officer John Rosa observed a vehicle traveling at what appeared to be an extremely high speed on Airport Road near Charleston Side Road. Radoslaw Karlinski, 22, of Brampton, found himself accused of going 152 km/h in the 80-km/h zone. His court date was set as May 17.

      Headwaters Health Care Centre is among several community hospitals, and other services, that find themselves disadvantaged financially because the provincial funding formula makes no allowance for "high growth areas," county council was told last Thursday.

      After 13 years of owning 10 acres of land in Mono fronting on Highway 10 between 20 and 25 sideroad, a resident is facing difficulties in building a home on the property. The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) wants to put a conservation easement through the property, currently zoned environmental protection.

A fatal leap into the unknown
      In memory of PRIVATE DAVID BARCLAY BROWN, Reg #426044 David Barclay Brown, or Barclay as he was called, was born to Sarah Angeline and David Bert Brown in 1895. When Barclay was older he lived on his family farm near Orangeville. In 1914, his world - the whole world - was overturned by war. Just six days before Christmas, David took a leap into the unknown and enlisted.

Council mulls sewage situation in camera
      Shelburne Council met Monday night but spent most of the time behind closed doors to discuss the Town's reduced sewage allocation with engineers and lawyers. Mayor Ed Crewson was hoping to have an update about the situation but said Wednesday afternoon that won't happen until at least next week.

Primrose school stocks Far North library
      Thanks to the efforts of the kids, parents and staff of Princess Elizabeth Public School (PEPS), a native school in the Land of the Midnight Sun will finally have some books in its library. The native school, Inuujaq, is at a place called Arctic Bay, Nunavut, a settlement at the northern tip of Baffin Island - at least as far north of Orangeville as Calgary is west of here.

"Shelter from the Storm' campaign launched
      The Canadian Women's Foundation, in partnership with Winners and Home- Sense, BMO Financial Group and Rogers Media, launched a 'Shelter from the Storm' campaign on Monday with the sale of limited edition t-shirts at Winners and HomeSense outlets. Shelter from the Storm is Canada's only national fundraising campaign dedicated to ending violence against women.

As part of her success Pauline Hill from Welcome Wagon donated $2,000 to Headwaters Health Care Centre. Ms. Whyte chose to donate the funds to the Obstetrics/Maternity ward.

      Wellington-Dufferin- Guelph Public Health has received a four-year accreditation award from the Ontario Council on Community Health Accreditation (OCCHA). Meighan Finlay, OCCHA executive director, presented the certificate to Public Health at the Board of Health meeting in Guelph recently.
