The Hill Academy, an academic and athletic school designed to enable dedicated student-athletes to achieve their goals, has announced the appointment of Brian Wright as its principal for the 2007-08 school year.

Principal Wright was born and raised in Toronto. He holds an Honours B.A in English Literature and History from Trent University, a Masters degree in English and a B.Ed from Queen's. He taught for the Toronto School Board for 13 years and was head of the English Department at Eastdale Secondary School before moving to Orangeville with his family in 1989.

For the past 18 years, in his position as both a teacher and then as Head of English, he has been responsible for curriculum design, teacher mentoring, and student development as well as being involved in coaching lacrosse, baseball, curling and volleyball.

Over his 30 years in the profession, Mr. Wright has also gained experience teaching in Cambridge Bay in Nunavut, as well as overseas in London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Dublin.

The Hill Academy promotes itself as producing a uniquely balanced academic and athletic platform designed to enable dedicated student-athletes to achieve the next level.

This is accomplished by providing individualized, disciplined, and challenging programming along with complementary training, in a positive, respectful and healthy environment.

Located in the Hockley Valley, the school also uses facilities at Acts Family Fitness and Tennis as well as the Alder Street Recreation Centre in Orangeville.

Educator and athlete Peter Merrill and former CFLathlete Farell Duclair founded the school.

Both men and their staff are determined to produce a catalyst for change and growth in the Canadian academic and athletic system.
