Garage sale to benefit local SPCA branch
A local animal lover is hoping to raise funds for the Orangeville and District branch of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) through a community garage sale on May 5.
Fred Von Veh recently lost his dog, Trissie, and wanted to do something to help raise money for the local OSPCA. He talked with Kim Perryman, the parks and recreation director in Mono, Barb McCreath and Jacquie Perrin, an anchor with CTV Newworld along with some other community members.
Mr. Von Veh said this is a worthy cause, as there are many animals in the area that need help.
"We have to do whatever we can to help the little animals who don't have a home and who should have a home," he said.
His theory is simple. He thinks that with funds to benefit animals, people will be more generous, and he's hoping to raise between $3,000 and $4,000 during the sale at the Mono Community Centre, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Area residents are invited to bring items they wish to donate to this cause to the Mono Community Centre starting on April 30. As well, residents who would like to help with the set-up, such as organizing tables, can call Paul Lansing at 519-942- 4347 or Mr. Von Veh at 416- 399-8849.
