The Long Weekend a treat for audience

"This is going to be the longest weekend of my life," is an understatement used in this Norm Foster comedy when you consider the antics of two couples featured in The Long Weekend.

Sharp barbs, caustic remarks and non-stop wit helps to keep the audience engaged in this laugh out loud contemporary story about marital woes.

As a treat for the local audience, Theatre Orangeville's rendition includes playwright Foster taking the stage as the character Max, demonstrating he is more than just a great writer. Joining him in an unexpected comedic role as Roger is the theatre's artistic director, David Nairn.

Max reluctantly plays host through two weekend get-togethers as secrets, betrayal and ubiquitous disappointment in life is revealed in this tale that proves the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Abby and Wynn, played by Heather Hodgson and Patricia Vanstone, are lifelong friends whose contemptuous love-hate relationship represents a friendship that will last - for better or worse - unlike their marriages.

Max and Roger, like many other husbands, find themselves spending time together, simply because their wives are friends, even though the men don't like each other. The impertinent behaviour displayed by all four characters is hidden only slightly behind veiled politeness.

The Long Weekend is a raucous tale about choices that are made along the way to "happily ever after".

Under the direction of Chris McHarge, returning to Theatre Orangeville for this production, it's the last show for Theatre Orangeville's season and is currently running at the Opera House until April 29. Call the box office for tickets, 519-942- 3423.
