Amaranth could face 25% property tax hike
      With a few meetings and a multitude of deliberations yet to go, Amaranth Township's 2007 draft budget as of April 18 indicated the possibility of a 25 per cent rise in property taxes. But if the township has experiences similar to those of other municipalities and the county, the final document could be a far cry from the draft.

Public health unit names acting MOH
      Chair Lynda Davenport of the Wellington-Dufferin- Guelph Board of Health has announced Dr. Nicola Mercer as the new Acting Medical Officer of Health and CEO for Wellington-Dufferin Guelph Public Health. Dr. Mercer begins her duties July 16. Dr. Hazel Lynn, MOH from Grey Bruce Health Unit will provide interim coverage for WDG Public Health from April 30 to July 15.

      Police are investigating the discovery of a male found dead near Alton on Wednesday of last week. The family of Albert John Hare, 62, of Mississauga, reported him missing to Peel Regional Police on Tuesday.

TOYS sing about sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
      Ready to end their 13th season on a high note, the Theatre Orangeville Young Singers - better known as the TOYS choir - is about to present its spring concert, Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows. Under the guidance of Joy Bell, founder of TOYS and director for the senior TOYS choir, and Joan Borden, director for the junior TOYS, the singers are in rehearsals and ready to perform.

      This is the time of year when Branch 233 trades the inside oven for the outdoor grill and gets the tents and picnic tables ready for upcoming summer events. On May 5th, Branch 233 hosts the District 8-Ball Tournament and later in the month on May 27th our annual Branch Golf Qualifier takes place at Orangeville Golf Course. 2nd electric car rally coming
      The technology department at Orangeville District Secondary School (ODSS) has announced that the second annual Orangeville Electric Car Grand Prix (OECGP), presented by Meridian Credit Union, will take place on June 2 and 3. The event will take place, on the newly paved ODSS parking lot (northwest corner). The temporary road race circuit measures about 3/8 of a kilometre.
