Forum examines hormones, health for 40-plus women

Canadian television personality Dini Petty will be speaking at a free Women's Health Forum in Orangeville on May 31 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. She will join medical herbalist Marion Marshall at the Broadway Tabernacle to talk to women about overcoming the inevitable challengemenopause.

"Just when I thought I had been through it all, I entered the female version of hell (menopause),'' Ms. Petty said.

After trying alternative medicine to combat it, and seeing little improvement, she "gave in" and went to hormone replacement therapy.

"I loved HRT, until we learned the risks outweighed the the benefits and they cancelled the clinical trials due to so many women dying," she said.

In addition, local Dr. Theresa Colley will speak on the importance of breast self-exam, mammography and ultrasound. She will discuss the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and educate women on the cervical cancer vaccine.

The event is being sponsored by Hospice Dufferin's -Headwaters Breast Cancer Support Group, who are celebrating their first year of service.
