Orangeville's Summer Camp registration is under way.
The various day camps, geared towards children aged 5-14, start up July 3 and end August 24. Some new camps have been added to the program this year. The Leader in Training Camp is offered this year for students who have completed Grade 9. This is a twoweek program designed for leaders who wish to assist camp counsellors and who are interested in becoming a camp counsellor in the future.
\This program provides training in areas of program planning, child development, leadership skills and First Aid. After completing the first week, participants will be placed in a camp as a Leader in Training (L.I.T.) for one week. Upon passing, participants will receive their Emergency First Aid and C.P.R. certificates, as well as their L.I.T. 1 certificate. Participants may return for a third week to complete their 40 hours of Community Service.
The second program is the Volunteer Leader program. It is for students above the age of 16 who love working with children. Participants can volunteer in a variety of areas including sports, theatre, cooking, the outdoors, arts and crafts.
There will be a mandatory training session on Wednesday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alder Street Recreation Centre. The volunteer program requires participants to commit to 40 hours.
The volunteer hours can go towards community service needed for a secondary school diploma. Applications can be picked up at the Alder Street Recreation Centre, 275 Alder Street, at the Customer Service Desk or on the Town's website at www.orangeville.ca. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 22. For more information on these programs contact Justin Gould at 519-940-9092 Ext.4106, or email jgould @orangeville.ca.
