Win and tie for Northmen A
The Rayburn Construction Northmen remain undefeated in Junior A regular season play after a win and a tie in weekend play.
Friday night, it was the Whitby Warriors in town for their first meeting of the season against Orangeville.
With Adam Jones and Matt McLeod leading the way for Orangeville it soon became apparent this was a game that would go to the wire.
While never relinquishing the lead, Orangeville found themselves tied on the scoreboard as Whitby continued to battle back.
Tied 7-7 going into the third, Orangeville looked poised to take the win until a Warrior goal with 1:19 left in the third forced the teams into overtime, where after 10 minutes of play, the score remained tied at 8-8, earning a single point for each team.
Sunday night, it was the Brampton Excelsiors in the house.
Up 2-0 at the end of the first, Orangeville looked like they were well on their way to another easy win.
Coming out flying off the start of two, Brampton soon found themselves with a short lived lead until late second period goals from Jones and Jay Card ended the period with Orangeville up 6-5.
In the third, both teams continued to swap goals.
With just over five minutes to play, Garrett Kerr fed a pass to Matt Lyons breaking down the right side for what would prove to be the game winner.
A backhand pass from Jesse Gamble to Mike McLeod gave the Northmen an insurance marker with 3:15 left to play and at the buzzer, it was Orangeville 9, Brampton 7.
