Memories of Kilimanjaro
      There was a program on the CBC early this week about the shrinking snows of Kilimanjaro. The documentary took place in the town of Moshe, which lies at the foot of that twin-peaked mountain. During the year that I spent crossing the continent of Africa, I lived for three months in that very spot.

      Isn't it amazing how smart people can sometimes be so stupid? One assumes that the people who run the University of Toronto, one of Canada's preeminent universities, are relatively bright. But then again, how do we explain the idiotic decision by the university brass to close the 88- year-old Hart House Rifle and Revolver Club?

      Premier Dalton McGuinty desperately needs an issue that can give him some upward momentum in the October 10 election campaign, and one has fallen into his lap like manna from heaven. Progressive Conservative leader John Tory's promise to fund faith-based schools has quickly become the most discussed idea in the campaign and could end up being the most influential.
