A recent grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will give the Island Lake Rowing Club some flexibility with the club opening, training and co-ordinating all activities over the summer months.

The club received $31,900 in funding at the beginning of the month to help expand participation in the club by improving coaching and outreach resources that should help to draw more people to the sport.

President Alex Lietz said this support from the foundation will allow the club to run its programs smoothly all summer.

Currently, the club has 100 members with a number of programs for people of every age. Mr. Lietz said rowing is a very nice summer activity as it is a lowimpact sport. He added that one of the club's most rewarding programs is teaching disabled youth to row.

The Trillium grant was awarded to 20 not-for-profit organizations.

Other local groups to receive grant money include the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County and Headwaters Communities in Action.
