Schryer Family Show launching Fiddlefest

2007-08-09 / Local News

No strangers to the Canadian Open Old Time Fiddlers' Contest as competitors, the Schryer family is set to return to the stage and jump start the entertainment tonight (Thursday).

Considered legends among regular Fiddlefest attendees, as competitors the Schryers took turns taking home top prizes in the fiddle contest for about 10 years straight beginning in the early 1990s.

The five siblings - Raymond, Julie and triplets Dan, Louis and Pierre - recorded several albums together and appeared on the Tommy Hunter Show regularly during its 27- year run that ended in 1992.

They were last together on stage in Ottawa more than 10 years ago during a Rocket Richard tribute and have no other plans to reunite for other performances, since the siblings are busy raising children and pursuing other careers.

Joining the family on stage tonight are the newest performers in the family, Louis's two daughters, who will be step-dancing during some of the numbers.

The Schryer family is set to take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at Holmes Appliances and Music Shop in Shelburne or by telephone at the Town of Shelburne at 519- 925-2600 ext. 238.
