'Key For Two' set to open in Hillsburgh
It's proving to be a landmark season at Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh, as audiences in record-breaking numbers flock to enjoy great comedy in air-conditioned comfort.
Rehearsals are now under way for "Key For Two," a farce by two of Britain's greatest comedy writers, John Chapman and Dave Freeman.
The play is full of situations that are disastrous for the participants, but hilarious for the audience. A farce always has a victim who gets deeper and deeper into trouble as the problems mount. Harriet has a secret, and she keeps it very skillfully until an accident in the kitchen, and the arrival of several unexpected and in most cases unwelcome guests throws her plans awry. Soon everyone is pretending to be someone else, most have something to hide, and the confusion builds until it seems impossible to avert a catastrophe.
The hectic finale brings a surprise twist, and one of the best closing scenes in comedy.
The silent auction is also proving popular, with more than 50 items having been donated by local merchants. It continues throughout the summer until September 22.
The play runs August 15 - 25, with matinees on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and evening performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There will be no evening performance on Thursday, August 23, due to a private performance in the morning.
Tickets are $22 - $27, including all taxes and charges, and can be reserved by calling the box office at 519-855-4586.
